White Nitrile
White Nitrile is a commercial grade white rubber sheet with a smooth finish. It has a shore “A” hardness of 65 durometer, making the material firm yet flexible. It withstands a range of service temperatures from -20 to +170°F (-20 to 76°C).
Nitrile, also known as Buna-N, is a popular synthetic elastomer that is manufactured from a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. This material is ideal for machinery gaskets and is perfect for those in and around oil and gas handling equipment due to its high resistance to oil and gasoline.
White Nitrile is generally used where the appearance is an important factor. The smooth white finish is often desired, especially in medical applications. As a secondary benefit, white nitrile sealing will show leaks that would remain undetected against dark materials. White nitrile gaskets are also common in food and beverage production as well as pharmaceuticals.
White Nitrile generally has good resistance to oil and gasoline, good resistance to petroleum-based hydraulic fluids, good resistance to hydrocarbon solvents, and good resistance to alkalis and acids. This material is a great choice for gasket materials that will be in contact with hydrocarbons. However, nitrile is quite vulnerable to ozone, ketones, esters and aldehydes.
